Het is jammer dat de tekst slecht vertaald en geredigeerd is. Overduidelijk is dat de tekst uit het Engels is vertaald en de zinsbouw niet aangepast is aan het Nederlands. Daardoor leest de tekst stroef en bovendien wemelt het van de tikfouten.

Antikraak-contracten blijken structureel in strijd met artikel 12 van de grondwet: huisvrede. Het is bovendien droef te zien dat de uitgever deze abominabele vertaling niet fatsoenlijk geredigeerd heeft. Een groot deel van de tekst bestaat uit onleesbare zinnen, zinsbouw, interpunctie en tikfouten tieren welig en af en toe is de vertaling zo warrig dat je je afvraagt of de vertalers wel hebben begrepen wat ze vertaalden.

Sous l’Empire, les anciennes Institutions se dégradent en une cascade de dispositifs. » Et dans l’insurrection qui vient, la liquidation des dispositifs est le premier des buts. Comment faire apporte au livre une note plus douce, bien que … « On a vu, on a compris. Les méthodes et les buts. Le destin qu’on nous réserve. Celui qu’on nous refuse. L’État d’exception. Les lois qui mettent la police, l’administration, la magistrature au-dessus des lois. La judiciarisation, la psychiatrisation, la médicalisation de tout ce qui sort du cadre. De tout ce qui fuit. On a vu. On a compris. Les méthodes et les buts. » Tiqqun est tout autre chose qu’une revue – une pensée partagée, un groupe d’ami(e)s à géométrie variable mais à programme fixe, la subversion du monde actuel.

Eekhoud se passionne pour les Loïstes qui rejettent l’autorité de l’Eglise Catholique et s’en prennent avec rage, pour la radicaliser, à la tiédeur de la Réforme comme ils critiquent l’austérité protestante ! Loïet et ses disciples en appellent à l’amour libre et à la défense des pauvres et des opprimés contre l’intolérable arrogance de la richesse. `Les libertins d’Anvers' raconte l’histoire de cette hérésie tout en décrivant Anvers à la fin du 15ème siècle.

De Duitse denker Max Stirner (1806 – 1856) is een éénling onder de denkers. Een provocateur bij uitstek, maar geen revolutionair. Een leerling van de strenge Hegel, maar in zijn eigen hoofdwerk `De Enige en zijn Eigendom' een ironie ten toon spreidend die vaak niet begrepen is. Stirners boek baarde bij verschijnen in 1844 de nodige opzien, maar werd wegens de radicale opvattingen van de schrijver al spoedig opzij gezet en genegeerd, zwaar bekrtiseerd of bespot. De onverbloemde opvatting van de schrijver dat er in feite weinig verschil zou zijn tussen het door de Verlichtingsdenkers zo bejubelde humanisme en het traditionele christendom viel niet in goede aarde. En zijn pleidooi voor het ‘egoïsme’ – in tegenstelling tot streven naar algemeen maatschappelijke doelen – leverde hem de hoon van Marx, Engels en andere communisten en socialisten op. Toch wordt Stirner de laatste jaren weer vaker gezien als een invloedrijk denker en zelfs als een voorloper van Nietzsche. En een eeuw na de eerste Nederlandse vertaling van `De Enige en zijn Eigendom' werd er vorig jaar in België een nieuwe uitgave van deze bijna vergeten filosofische klassieker.

Sommigen zouden zelfs naar het Oostfront gaan als soldaat. Jammer dat de reader nogal schematische inleidingen bevat, die bij sommige bijdragen niet het steekwoordenniveau ontstijgt.

Over dit onderwerp is eigenlijk nooit iets in druk verschenen, vandaar dat de uitgever nadat die deze scriptie aantrof in de collectie van het IISG besloot tot een uitgave. De auteur dook voor haar geschiedenisstudie in de archieven van het IISG en zocht uit wat de houding van de Nederlandse anarchisten was ten aanzien van de politiek van de Spaanse anarchisten voor en tijdens de Spaanse Revolutie/Burgeroorlog. Ze schildert het Nederlandse landschap van anarchistische (des)organisatie en de diep gewortelde antimilitaristische tradities vanaf het begin van de twintigste eeuw. Deze antimilitaristische traditie was een van de hoofdoorzaken voor de afkeuring van veel Nederlandse anarchisten van de deelname van anarchisten aan de oorlog in Spanje. Uiteindelijk zou wel of niet ondersteuning van de Spaanse kameraden tot een splijtzwam worden binnen de Nederlandse anarchistische beweging. Aan de hand van artikelen die in de genoemde jaren in de Nederlandse anarchistische pers verschenen, reconstrueert Kloosterman op minitieuze wijze de discussies. Een zeer goed leesbare reconstructie van een stuk slecht beschreven geschiedenis. Geregeld krijg je tijdens het lezen last van plaatsvervangende schaamte. Niet alleen van de stuitende afzijdigheid maar ook voor de weinig kritische geest die de Nederlandse anarchisten kenmerkte die wel de strijd van de Spaanse kameraden ondersteunden. Zo goed als onvoorwaardelijk werden de Spaanse CNT en FAI ondersteund. Eventuele kritiek werd onder het kleed geschoven of uitgesteld tot jaren na de teloorgang van de Spaanse Revolutie.

Die Aufgabe, die der Anarchismus vor allem unter den deutschen Micheln zu erfüllen hat, ist in erster Linie: Individualitäten zu erwecken, sie zum Bewusstsein ihrer selbst zu bringen, trotzige Individualität des Geistes, des Charakters, des Temperamentes. Seit den neunziger Jahren des 19. Jahrhunderts bemühte sich Gustav Landauer (1870-1919) beharrlich, anarchistisches Gedankengut im deutschsprachigen Raum bekannt zu machen. Anarchie bedeutete ihm nicht nur keine Herrschaft von Menschen über den Menschen, sondern auch keine Herrschaft äußerer Ziele, Zwecke und Sinngebungen über das Leben der Menschen. Ausgehend von einem grundlegenden Unbehagen an der sinnentleerten und nivel-lierenden Moderne, begriff Landauer, dass Veränderungen allein im politischen und ökonomischen Bereich ebenso wenig ausreichen wie eine Revolution als einmaliger und abgeschlossener Vorgang, um zu einer grundlegenden Regeneration der Gesell-schaft zu gelangen. Vielmehr bedürfe es einer tief-greifenden Revolutionierung der kulturellen, auch alltäglichen und privaten Lebensbereiche und vor allem einer nachhaltigen Veränderung des Bewusstseins der Menschen. Zenzl Mühsam écrit des lettres à son mari, Erich, enfermé en forteresse après l'épisode de la république des Conseils. La répression a été féroce. Zenzl lui écrit des lettres sur les choses de la vie, elle décrit avec beaucoup de finesse l'atmosphère politique de l'Allemagne des années 1920. Elle écrit aussi des lettres aux amis de toujours qui la soutiennent, les Rocker, Emma Goldman et d'autres. Mühsam est libéré le 21 décembre 1924. Suivent neuf années de liberté. A la suite de l'incendie du Reichstag, Erich Mühsam est arrêté la nuit même : prison, tortures puis le calvaire de camp en camp. Zenzl organise une riposte collective des femmes de prisonniers, en vain. Erich est assassiné le 10 juillet 1934 au camp d'Oranienburg, elle voit sa dépouille et fuit en Tchécoslovaquie. Avec des amis elle sauve les oeuvres de Mühsam. Déchue de la nationalité allemande, elle est invitée en URSS en 1935 où croit-elle, elle pourra publier les oeuvres d'Erich. 1936, première arrestation et protestations internationales. 1938, 1946, 1949 arrestations et relégations… Elle revient enfin en RDA en 1955. Cette femme face aux persécutions a la stature d'une tragédienne grecque, droite, courageuse, elle ne pliera jamais ayant comme unique but de sa vie la publication des oeuvres d'Erich Mühsam.

Le rôle et le comportement des anarchistes français pendant la période de la seconde guerre mondiale sont, malgré quelques études pionnières, encore mal connus. Les raisons en sont multiples, en particulier parce que toute réaction organisée et structurée avait été impossible dans l'immédiat. Ce fut le comportement individuel des militants que nous devons essentiellement étudier, et pour comprendre cette situation, la physionomie et un bilan de la mouvance anarchiste d'avant guerre sont nécessaires. D'autre part, pour les anarchistes, cette période constitue, à tort, un revers, avec le fascisme qui sévit, la défaite de l'Espagne républicaine, l'échec face à la guerre, l'Occupation nazie, la répression, les emprisonnements, la collaboration, etc. Face à cette adversité, beaucoup semblent oublier les actions de résistance et de reconstruction d'un mouvement anarchiste clandestin, ou du moins ne songent pas à s'attarder sur les traumatismes d'une époque à oublier au détriment de la mémoire de ceux qui ont poursuivi le combat.

Over in the anglo speaking world we have seen a number of similar causes - the phrase dumbing down, the general hatred of media studies by the errr . . . media, Big Brother, the 50% university target - all of this blamed on democracy - at least this is what Rancière exposes in his account of the use of it as a term of abuse especially in the work of a section of French intellectuals. But democracy as a term of abuse is not new. Rancière argues that hatred of democracy is as old as democracy itself. Indeed the term was first of all an insult, used by those who saw in it the ruin of all legitimate order through the innumerable government of the multitude. Rancière wants his book to follow up the consequences of this hatred but also much more positively to restore to the term democracy, its cutting edge.

De bende van Dillinger omvatte onder meer de sociopaat Baby Face Nelson en was niet alleen geliefd bij het volk maar trok ook de aandacht van een eenvoudig opsporingsbureau: de FBI. Haar leider J. Edgar Hoover gebruikte Dillinger om zichzelf en zijn bureau landelijk op de kaart te zetten, door hem tot Public Enemy Nummer 1 uit te roepen. Hoover en zijn trouwe adjudant Melvin Purvis werden echter door Dillinger keer op keer voor gek gezet en tijdens vuurgevechten dolven ze het onderspit. Pas na het inzetten van een enorme politiemacht, de beruchte Lady in Red en onderwereldbaas Frank Nitti kon men Dillinger te pakken krijgen: op 22 juli 1934 bezocht John Dillinger de film Manhattan Melodrama in een bioscoop in Chicago samen met zijn vriendin Polly Hamilton en Ana Campanas. Campanas, die uitzetting boven het hoofd hing, had de politie echter getipt. Eenmaal buiten opende de politie het vuur op Dillinger, die om het leven kwam.

En mars 1892, l’anarchiste Ravachol fait exploser un immeuble parisien boulevard Saint-Germain. Ce n’est certes pas le premier attentat anarchiste en France, mais il inaugure une vaste série qui, en décembre 1893, touche directement le pouvoir politique : une bombe est jetée par Auguste Vaillant au sein de l’Assemblée en pleine séance des députés. Ainsi pris pour cible, le gouvernement fait alors adopter immédiatement deux lois graves, qui remettent profondément en question les libertés acquises : la première de ces lois concerne la presse et condamne d’emprisonnement toute déclaration considérée comme une apologie des attentats ou une provocation à en commettre, même lorsque cette provocation n’est pas suivie d’effet ; la deuxième loi définit toute « entente établie dans le but de préparer ou de commettre des crimes contre les personnes ou les propriétés » comme une association de malfaiteurs, condamnable des travaux forcés et de la relégation. Mais les attentats continuèrent et, en juillet 1894, le président de la République lui-même, Sadi Carnot, est assassiné. Une troisième loi est alors aussitôt votée, renforçant encore la répression contre toute forme de propagande anarchiste. Ce sont ces trois lois que les anarchistes et, plus largement, les socialistes révolutionnaires désignèrent sous le terme de « lois scélérates ». Publié en 1899 et jamais réédité depuis, l’ouvrage sur Les Lois scélérates de 1893-1894 que nous publions ici analyse en trois textes l’esprit de ces lois d'abord, la manière dont elles furent adoptées et finalement imposées par le gouvernement ensuite, et enfin les condamnations auxquelles elles donnèrent lieu. Reprenant les faits eux-mêmes de l’histoire de ces lois, ces textes mettent clairement en lumière la façon dont le pouvoir politique et juridique a profité de la menace anarchiste pour promulguer et appliquer des lois destinées à réprimer toute contestation révolutionnaire, au mépris des principes fondamentaux de la République et de l’État de droit. En nous montrant ainsi dans le détail comment un gouvernement élu peut exploiter l’émotion suscitée par certains événements pour se doter de lois liberticides, ce livre constitue aussi une dénonciation rigoureuse des manipulations et abus du pouvoir face à l’opposition politique et à la société civile. Une leçon précieuse en ce début de XXIe siècle, où la « lutte contre le terrorisme » et la « sécurité des citoyens » sont devenues les arguments inespérés des gouvernements occidentaux pour renforcer le contrôle des citoyens au mépris des libertés individuelles.

In 2006 journalist and photographer Liesbeth Sluiter decided to write a book about the Clean Clothes Campaign because its “international reach and ‘light’ organisational model fascinated me”. When the CCC gave her the green light and the UK’s Pluto Press agreed to publish it, Sluiter set about interviewing dozens of people and making her way through piles of archival material to find those little gems that make the story of the CCC come alive. The fruits of her labour, Clean Clothes: A Movement to End Sweatshops, will appear in November 2009. The book charts the history of the garment industry’s globalisation and, in its wake, the rise of the Clean Clothes Campaign. Sluiter concludes that in the last twenty years, the CCC network has been successful in raising awareness on labour right violations in the garment industry and in promoting corporate social responsibility, but there is a lot of work to be done to actually improve conditions on the work floor. She fears that the current financial crisis may pose an extra challenge in that regard. But it’s a challenge that the CCC should be able to take on, according to Sluiter. What she has learned from writing the book is that the network’s flexible and organic way of organising is a successful model for this type of work, enabling the CCC to respond effectively to developments. The enthusiasm, knowledge and hands-on mentality of the people involved infuse the network with an ‘enormous spirit’. One area the CCC could improve on, she says, is communicating effectively through the use of images. High-quality visuals illustrating the issues that the CCC is working on could go a long way in bringing home the message.

Much of the article is about the sabotage of the Miners strike in the UK in 1984-5 by the National Union of Mineworkers and thus might seem irrelevant in Australia nearly twenty years later. However as well as much that is specific to the Miners strike there is an excellent exposition of the standard communist critique of the unions first developed by the council communists some eighty years ago. The council communists criticised the unions due to their experiences in the failed German revolution of 1918-23 where the unions and the Social Democratic Party used the Freikorps (proto-Nazi formations of ex-soldiers) to slaughter the insurgent proletariat. Le texte qui suit a pour objet de décrire le mouvement que les chômeurs argentins ont développé depuis le début des années de crise, autour de 1995. La crise argentine a produit un mouvement social riche d’expériences nouvelles, et pas seulement dans la section du prolétariat qui était au chômage en raison de la politique de dégraissages, de restructurations et de privatisations qui fut menée à tombeau ouvert par le gouvernement et les patrons. Cependant, mon étude se limite pratiquement au cas des chômeurs, tant pour des raisons de place que parce que les piqueteros argentins constituent un mouvement social exceptionnel justifiant qu’il soit considéré pour lui-même. Dans l’histoire mondiale du prolétariat, il n’y a pas d’exemple où l’on ait vu les chômeurs développer une activité propre aussi approfondie et construite que celle des piqueteros argentins. Le chômage, même quand il est massif, est le plus souvent considéré et vécu comme l’antichambre du travail, tandis que le chômeur de la célèbre « armée de réserve » est vu comme un travailleur potentiel plus que comme une figure en soi. Le cas de l’Argentine bouscule ces images. Certes, les piqueteros ne se sont pas privés de demander du travail, ainsi qu’on le verra. Mais la façon même dont ils ont agi et se sont organisés pour défendre leurs revendications les a constitués en un mouvement qui, sans être coupé du reste du prolétariat, s’est développé selon une logique à lui, a inventé des modes d’action spécifiquement adaptés à ses conditions propres. Ce mouvement a en quelque sorte promu une identité que le terme de piquetero revendique et résume, et qui lui donne une place à part dans le prolétariat argentin.

Tijdens zijn verbanning in Nederland schreef hij het nu wederom herdrukte boek dat één grote aanklacht is tegen het eeuwenlange koloniale bestuur van Suriname. Tevens is het een geschiedenis van het verzet dat de aangevoerde slaven uit Afrika al eeuwen pleegden. Het boek was bij uitkomst in 1934 voor velen in Nederland een eye-opener. De Kom stierf tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog in een concentratiekamp, nadat hij opgepakt was wegens deelname aan het verzet tegen de Duitse bezetter.

Anton Mussert, opgericht in 1931, was de eerste extreem-rechtse partij die langer standhield. De historici Te Slaa en Klijn beschrijven hoe de NSB haar eigen nationale variant van het fascisme probeerde te ontwikkelen, maar zich niet kon onttrekken aan de invloed van Hitlers Derde Rijk. Participó, asimismo, en la creación del grupo armado Action Directe en 1979, militancia que le costaría el encarcelamiento en 1980 para ser amnistiado en 1981. En febrero de 1987 vuelve a ser detenido acusado de haber participado en varios atentados y asesinatos, siendo condenado a varias cadenas perpetuas. Tras más de veinte años en prisión, once de ellos en cárceles de alta seguridad, sale el 6 de diciembre de 2007 de la cárcel, en régimen de tercer grado, régimen que le es retirado tras una entrevista concedida al diario `L’Express', perdiendo de esta manera la posibilidad de acceder a la libertad condicional.

De inmiddels gesloopte verzorgingsstaat had geen andere bedoeling dan om de mensen met aalmoezen in leven te laten blijven, terwijl de multinationals als paddestoelen de grond uit kwamen. De rechtstaat, die nauwelijks nog toegankelijk is voor de financieel armen, heeft tot doel om de armoedzaaiers de valse hoop te geven dat ze nog iets te eisen hebben. Het Rijk heeft alle macht, de plaatselijke overheid is de zetbaas van Den Haag en de Deelgemeente heeft alles te zeggen over een scheefstaande lantaarnpaal. De NSB en ook Wilders met hun beweging zonder leden, willen een autoritaire staat. Van bovenaf wordt alles bepaald, onderop moet alles worden geslikt. Angst is het middel om mensen voor je winnen, wie angst zaait, zal macht oogsten.
